Eft For Mac Eve

broken image

There are a number of useful player-made tools available to the capsuleer. While not exhaustive, this article does cover the major, currently developed, widely used third party tools for EVE players, compiled from original research and other sources[1][2][3].

  1. Eft For Mac Eve Programs
  2. Eft For Mac Eve 2020

I use EFT with crossover 7.0 and it works fine. That will work until someone comes up with a native EFT for mac That sounds highly unlikely to happen, the EFT application is closed source and it doesn't seem like the guy who is making it is really sharing the source with anyone. Eve-Meep is the host for a wide array of tools that provide the vital calculations necessary for any serious industrialist in the Eve-Online world. GTK+ Mac OS X Build system and integration libraries allows automatic building of GTK+-2 & 3 applications on OSX using the native Quartz display system, the Mac menubar, and familiar key bindings. If you judge by comments on the forums EFT is the most popular and it does work well. Of the three of them I have never liked the interface and how the folks that write EFT choose to do things but that is personal preference. They are all free, download them all and see which one you like best and then use it. EvE HQ PYFA EFT.

Inclusion in this list is not an endorsement of a tool by EVE University, nor is omission a condemnation.

Retired

Over the years, UniWiki has seen a great many third party tools come and go. There are many reasons why a tool may become discontinued - from API changes that would require a major overhaul, to the authors no longer playing Eve, to the high costs of running a popular website, and many other reasons. Whatever the reasoning, in the interest of providing an up to date list here as well as maintaining a historical reference, those tools have been moved to another page: Retired third-party tools.

That sounds highly unlikely to happen, the EFT application is closed source and it doesn't seem like the guy who is making it is really sharing the source with anyone. So if he doesn't do it nobody will sadly.

I began writing a skill monitor in May. It's still not finished. I'm being really tardy with it.
Cocoa Skill Monitor exists. It provides a character sheet view and skill alarm. It's no longer supported, I believe the author said they lost interest in playing EVE.
There is also a skill training widget named EVE Skill Monitor, which just shows time remaining on the current skill.
Sorry I don't have links, I found both on these forums ages ago. Neither are anywhere near as feature rich as EVEMon.
Both however have a tendency to blast out SKILL TRAINING COMPLETED whenever they can't access the EVE API for any reason. If you don't want to be woken up in the middle of the night then do not leave your machine on with either of these utilities running.
I suppose I should get back to coding again. I'd like to do something like EFT but it's a much more difficult project. I'm not going to commit to doing one until I have something to show for skill monitoring first.
Also everyone who would like a Mac, or Linux version of an EFT-like application should poke CCP into releasing an official valign='top' width='100'>

For some reason the author of EFT refuses to open-source it, even though he's not selling it or anything and the EVE community would benefit greatly from doing so, so it's hopeless atm unless you want to start from scratch in Cocoa or something (a lot harder than it sounds - the calculations that drive EFT are ridiculously complex, to say nothing of the time involved in bringing in all the data about skills, ships, items, etc).
Unfortunately WINE has some bugs that make EFT not work right. Cool that crossover works, too bad I didn't get it when it was free. VMWare is too much of a hog to use just for EFT.
Make no mistake, I reboot into Windows to play EVE since the Mac client is only good for spinning your ship in a station so it's not a crippling issue, but being able to theorycraft when not playing would be nice.

Oh come on, perhaps some of the calculations for damage factoring in sig radius, tracking, transversal, etc may be complicated, but the basic math for simply fitting a ship is very basic. Before EFT, and shipfit before that, I would do it by hand.
You could fairly easily write a web application using javascript that would calculate the basics (grid/cpu, simple cap simulation, velocity, raw dps) that would run in any browser window on any platform. Entry some of the data might be slightly tedious, but it should more or less be a one time deal. If you were to just put in a few ships and allow users to populate it, you would be set. Added bonus is that you wouldn't have to go in and edit the changes to ships and modules as players could do that as well.
I might give it a shot, however, I am far to lazy to do it myself. Still, shouldn't be that difficult tbh.

I've been interested in writing some apps for OSX for a while, and now I seem to have some spare time on my hands I've started putting together a EFT/SkillMon type application.
Thus far handling the chit-chat with the API has proven really (ridiculously) simple, even for a guy whose only spent a week with Cocoa.
Right now I can collect and process the skill tree and character list/sheets. A total of 150 lines of code :)
I'm going through the docs on Core Data to get a grip on working with the datadump. I've not taken a close look at the contents of the dump, though eve-id seems to have enough info to start with.

yes eft does work in wine, theres a few bugs but nothing show stopping. To quote myself form the sticked thread
Originally by:Norwood FransklyHow to get EFT working
1. download EFT
2. download wine for OS X (I got the .dmg package from here http://www.kronenberg.org/darwine/
3. After installing package goto Applications/Darwine/Sample WineLib Applications/ in finder
4. right click (or cntrl + click if you have 1 button macbook pro ) on winecfg.exe and go open with winehelper
5. The wine configuration dialogue should pop up in an X11 window
6. Set wine up to emulate Windows XP under applications setting tab by selecting windows xp from the drop down box near bottom of the screen
7. browse to the folder you downloaded eft to, right click EFT.exe select open with winehelper
8. EFT should now open, some of the icons may look screwed up to fix this click file preferences and check the box marked force high color icons
9. restart EFT
known problems, drag and drop of fittings won't work, to stick fittings on double click them, can't change ammo in guns (right clicking them won't work for some reason). Other then that it's definitely useable

Sure beats using a virtual machine just for 1 program :)

for Evemon I use a program that sits in the dash board not sure what it's called but I got the link off this forum somewhere.
heres a screen shot of all the eve related stuff I run under OS -X not shown there but I also use vent and TS. Over all I'm pleased with respect to eve and OS X, I can basically do everything on my laptop (early 2008 Macbook pro). Haven't had to boot windows for eve related stuff for a long time now. Premium graphics would be cool but over all I think ccp should just concentrate on making classic rock solid first.

I'm going through the docs on Core Data to get a grip on working with the datadump. I've not taken a close look at the contents of the dump, though eve-id seems to have enough info to start with.

Good luck, please open source if you get tired of it (or sooner!) since I'm sure others would love to help or pick up the torch.

I've started a googlecode project for this and a blog:
http://code.google.com/p/mac-eve-tool-suite/
http://cocoarookie.wordpress.com/
There's not much of anything in SVN at the moment. I'm working on the data dump importer at the moment, converting the DB to a Core Data model. I've run into a couple of issues that I've mentioned in the blog, but basically getting there slowly.
I should say this is a project I'm using to learn more about Cocoa development, so there's not going to be rapid progress by any means, but if there are some guys here experienced in Cocoa and/or the Eve data then please feel free to chip in with suggestions.

Any reason not to use sqlite ?

Palinto Morex
Basically I found a Cocoa wrapper for MySQL faster than I've found one for SQLite. I've also got some decent desktop tools for dealing with MySQL which allows me to explore the DB quite easily.
If you're suggesting simply using the extract SQLite DB as the database for the end-user app then I'd have to say there are a couple of reasons for not doing that; I'm trying to learn Cocoa so using Core Data is part of that, and I'm increasingly discovering that the database is not 'correct' in a few places (attributes using valueFloat and/or valueInt in no sensible fashion, missing attributes on types, etc).
Classic example from last night is the skills. One would presume that any skill can only have prerequisites of 'lower' skills, but trying to import them showed me at least one example of a skill (eg: typeID 123) requiring a 'higher' skill (eg: typeID 124). For me this tends to suggest a lack of referential integrity in the exported dumps, no idea if that is true on the 'live' systems.
Another thing I've discovered is that by processing the dump into an object graph in CD I'm reducing its size considerably. My previous imports following the DB structure and not really filtering it were quite sizable, while the newer model is pretty small. It also gets around issues dealing with 'published = 0' on things that really should be 'published = 1'.
Basically the data dump is a bit untidy and processing it once (during import) to get it clean seems more sensible than trying to work around the issues in an end-user app.

I was. It seems like a much simpler solution than using Core Data to me but your reasons are perfectly valid.

No offence but why are you presuming this ? typeID is unique identifier for a row .. the name could be anything, why is it reasonable to assume that any prerequisites for row 124 will be in rows 1-123 ?

Palinto Morex
Today, while I was working out a plan to deal with the SQLite extract rather than MySQL, I looked into using a 'normal' SQLite file instead of a generated CD file. Nothing conclusive but it appeared it was probably possible but no clear example of how/what/where. I'm still new and can handle a bit of SQL here and there, so I opted out of that one.
The QuickLite API I've picked is quite different from the MCPKit one, but I managed to get there eventually.

None taken, I just *knew* I'd get called on that.
My presumption was, and really still is, that the typeIDs are sequential. I know they're just *unique ids' but in my experience these id's are normally sequence/autonumber/auto_increment. In which case referring to a 'later' id from an 'earlier' one seems just weird. It was just an example, a particularly odd one for me, but an example nonetheless.
Today I discover requiredSkill[1-6]Level are 'published = 0', and unless I'm mistaken about how the skill hierarchy is built, they're needed. I also bumped into 4 skills that have 'requiredSkillLevel1' attributes, but no 'requiredSkill1'. Oddities I'd like to deal with only once.
Don't get me wrong, these are all issues you're likely to find in a DB that's circa 5 years old and continually expanding. I've no idea how/where-from the extract is made, and I'm only dealing with conversions from the 'official' extract. It's an experience dealing with it, that's for sure, but it only adds to my determination to make sense of it. The game *does* run after all :)
Anyway, I've managed to commit an importer that at least builds the CD graph for ships and skills. Next up the mods, though I think I'll at least try to get a ship browser working first, something with a UI..
Right now I'm bank-rot in game, go I've got to go shoot some rock

I'd be interested to know how you got it working, as I couldn't. Any tips?

It should work out of the box. It's not particularly pretty though.

Premium graphics would be cool but over all I think ccp should just concentrate on making classic rock solid first.

please note darwine has no support and afaik hasnt been updated in ages.

Thanks

There's no end-user stuff available yet, just a utility application to import the database into Core Data, not much use to anyone else really.
Today I've managed to get a basic ship viewer, much like the in-game fitting screen, which shows the base attributes of a ship without taking into account skills. It'll be a few more days before that's in any sort of shape to show the world, but progress *is* being made.
